Nowadays the SVEN Company offers a wide number of different line voltage stabilizers, with power from 500 to 2000 VA.
Is clear that it can be used as a protection for personal computers and for protection of more powerful electrical system consisting of several consumers. In this article we will talk about the NEO R 1500 of 1500 VA or 750W models. This capacity is enough to provide reliable protection of a small office with multiple computers or a whole galaxy of other devices, such as home theater. The producer indicates a considerable relevance of this device in terms of the protection of modern refrigerators and other appliances.
Delivery
The stabilizer is sold in the ordinary cardboard box, where you can find, in addition the device, the Instructions and Warranty card. Such an approach is understandable, because all the needed plugs are already on the case of the stabilizer.
Look
NEO R 1500 is shaped like a small cube with 290h290h265 mm size and 4.6 kg weight. Let’s note that the cubic form is good enough and convenient, because the stabilizer does not take up much space during the installation, and can be placed in any corner of the room.
The corps is plastic. The upper half is painted in silver, the bottom is black. The material is enough heavy, and inside the stabilizer is fastened by numerous additional ribs. Falling from low altitude is clearly not a risk for integrity. For more reliable installation there are four rubber legs from below. First, it will contribute to undo the body from the surface to which it is installed; therefore, the vibration of the transformer will not be transferred. Second, the stabilizer does not slide on a smooth floor. In the kitchen, for example, where there is often fridge and the floor is tiled glossy.
The sockets for customers connecting arranged to the top panel. There are four of it. The construction is typical and simple, because grounding contacts are present, but there are no protective shutters.
When the system will protect some computer users, you can use the IEC 320 connector in the side. Although it is more versatile than you think. If the NEO R 1500 is in the kitchen, then it can easily connect to TV. In general, there are no problems with outputs, because there are proper quantities of variety of sockets.
The device is connected to the network by cable which length is about 1.7 meters. At first glance it is striking because to its heaviness, this dimension seems excessive. However, the test revealed that only insulation is heavy, but wires have a standard section. remains only to note the power switch, which is combined with an automatic safety device. It turn off consumers from the network, if the power would be too great, or it will work in tandem with varistor protection, if the over voltage suddenly appeared.
The case is opened easily, because two halves are mounted together by four of screws. The inner stuffing is as simple as possible, but there is no cause for criticism. A massive transformer is attached to the bottom of the unit. And it is not directly bolted to the head, but to a metal plate. This not only increases the rigidity of the structure, but also promotes more effective cooling of the core.
Electronics soldered to one small card. The assembly is of high-quality, but the level of the circuit is basic. The windings are switched with three Bestar BS-115C relay with a maximum switching current of 10 A, which, in our case, is quite enough. The operation is realized with a single microcontroller. There is no high frequency filter protecting from interference, but more important, that varistor protection is installed. That is, the over voltage theoretically is not scary, but short emission will be absorbed.
The saw set of conductors is made properly, on the merits. The copper bus bars of four of sockets are fixed with special plastic elements, and the wires are soldered to it. Of course, more expensive solutions inside should look prettier, but we have noticed no glaring nuances. Let's see how this would work in practice.
Practical testing
start with the most important - the study of logic of the automatic control system. NEO R 1500 has reducing step, linear section and two increase steps at once. Output voltage maybe 200 to 235 V. Considering that AVR is focused on 220V voltage, so deviation is less than 10% declared. In other words, in practice it is even better than in theory. The equipment will be functional even at strong subsidence of amplitude in power net, when voltage drops down till 155V.
The second important facet is the switching time, and we were just even more pleasantly surprised. It turned out that such an option is virtually nonexistent in device. Switching is visible barely on the oscillogram. No emissions effects and no contacts `bounce`. Even if we simulate multiple rapid change of the amplitude in the input, then stabilizer is working flawlessly. Users could switch on and black out it normally.
The only nuance: low efficiency of the transformer circuit. Even it is idling, when no consumers are connected to, the stabilizer consumes 15 watts from the plug, and a core is heated to 45 Celsius degrees. With long use at a nominal mark the transformer becomes even hotter - up to 70 degrees. It is grate that you don’t hear the buzz and there is no odor. Looking at a heat mode, it can be said that short-term excess power for the NEO R 1500 is absolutely safe - even before disconnecting a fuse, but we still recommend exercising long-term work with a small reserve. This is especially true for summer time, when the passive ventilation is not so effective. In general, the simplest rule choosing source of power with the reserve has not still been canceled. Ideally, its power have to be 20- 25% higher than the maximum power of the consumer.
Conclusion
general, today's test result is positive. Let NEO R 1500 stabilizer is simple inside, but, at a price of $ 60, it provides real equipment protection, and the power of 750 watts allows you to charge multiple devices. Among the fine features worth mentioning a good variety of sockets, reusable automatic protector, correct operation of the automatic control system, no `artifacts` with switching, and, more importantly, the ability to operate with very low voltage network.
