The Finnish company SVEN gained wide popularity thanks to its ever-improving line of inexpensive, but qualitative computer speaker systems. Today the company’s product range, besides speaker systems and headphones, includes other computer devices and accessories. Some of them are notable for peculiar a technical solution that is why we decided to get a closer look at them. Today we have in our test laboratory six representatives of computer periphery from SVEN company: three wire keyboards SVEN Comfort 7200 EL, SVEN Comfort 7400 EL and SVEN Comfort 7600 EL, as well as three wireless mice SVEN RX-333 Wireless, SVEN RX-440 Wireless and SVEN RX-525 Silent Wireless. The keyboards chosen by us are notable for their ability for comfort work with them in darkness, and mice have original geometry and functionality.

All devices of SVEN Company are supplied in simple cartons of true Finnish colors – white and blue. The package content of every keyboard is diabolically simple – a printed User's manual in Russian and warranty card only. Besides paper accessories, mice have a pair of ААА form-factor batteries and USB slot. By the way, nothing more is required at all to work, because all additional keys, which have both keyboards and mice, operate correctly without downloading additional drivers.

SVEN Comfort 7200 EL model is designed primarily for those users, who would like to have not too large keyboard, but to use at the same time all the advantages of a full-size variant of this classic input unit. The novelty differs from the most similar compact keyboards by distinctive light blue backlight of all keys, which have translucent white cases. This feature of SVEN Comfort 7200 EL model allows not only typing texts in the dark comfortably, but also provides a possibility to fill the working space around a user with cold, but at the same time with pleasant dim light, which allows substituting in part the table-lamp light that can disturb the quiet rest of the people around him.

The top part of the keyboard case is made of glossy plastic and the lower one is opaque. It is possible to place the novelty lean to work comfortably using traditional pulldown legs on the case lower surface. In addition, small rubber pads are provided there to prevent the device from sliding over a table.

As far as the key layout is concerned, then it turns to be impossible to rate it among the traditional type. From one side, the fact that a producer decided to equip its novelty with the complete set of 104 keys, allowed to place an additional digital block on the right side. On the other hand, the compact size of SVEN Comfort 7200 EL model did not allow allocating cursor keys and such high-usage buttons, as [PageUp], [PageDown], [End] etc., into separate blocks. Naturally, this fact was reflected not in the best to the comfort of use.

Apart from the main work blocks, the block of additional buttons in the form of an elongated rectangular was provided at the top of the novelty. Eight keys standard for majority of modern keyboards are designed for the fast access to multimedia and internet applications.

However, impressions from the tactile kick of keys are the most positive. The novelty does not display any miracles, but it demonstrates confident and clear operation. The key mechanism is standard, i.e. it is a membrane one. Cyrillic letters of the keyboard layout are applied to white cases with red color. A text can be typed with SVEN Comfort 7200 EL model quite quickly both in the light and without it.

Blue backlighting really creates sufficient illumination for comfort typing, but, of course, it is not able to substitute a table lamp. However, total incoming light from the keyboard and monitor can be sufficient to read a text from a printed-paper carrier, or even to find easily some required small things on a table in the dark.

SVEN Comfort 7400 EL model will make happy first of all those users who need maximum comfort during work and do not spare working space on the table. In distinction to the majority of one of similar keyboards, the novelty has backlighting of translucent symbols applied on every key. At the wish of a user, backlighting can be blue or green. Backlighting is dim; therefore, the keyboard does not disperse any excess light to the environment. Nevertheless, a user is able to see every key clearly in total darkness and that is why he can easily type texts without using a table lamp.

SVEN Comfort 7400 EL model case is made of plastic of three types. The top part is made of glossy plastic, and lower one is mat. And they are combined with thin silvery frame-fringe, which adds a finished appearance to the novelty. Quite durable pulldown legs allow changing the keyboard tilt for more comfortable typing. And traditional rubber pads on the case lower edge prevent any casual sliding over the smooth surface of a table.

SVEN Comfort 7400 EL model has a traditional layout of main keys, which has 104 pieces of them similarly toSVEN Comfort 7200 EL, model. But at the same time both classic arrangement of these keys and traditionally enlarged dimensions of some of them allow typing texts with comfort for several hours in succession. At that, the keys have an inexpensive diaphragm mechanism, but at the same time, they are characterized by clear tactile knocking with short pleasant stroke. The keys are a little bit noisy, during typing, but within the normal level. Thus, it can be assumed that sleeping relatives in one room with a user-night-owl will however have their dreams at ease.

The novelty does not have a number of additional keys for quick start of applications, but several function keys [F1]–[F12] cope with their task, capabilities of which are activated, when [Fn] key is pressed. In such operation mode these keys are designed for quick access to multimedia and internet applications. The sole adequate additional round key is located on the right part of the case next to three standard LED indicators. This key serves to control the key backlighting. Short press of the key leads to switching a backlighting color, but the long press – to its complete switch off or, vice versa, switch on.

In regard to overall impressions from SVEN Comfort 7400 EL, model, they turned out to be of two kinds. From one side, a handy layout and pleasant key strokes create due conditions for continuous comfort work. But at the same time, keys of the novelty are well legible in the dusk or in total darkness only. In the light, the switched on backlighting is hardly legible, but without it translucent key marking is insufficient contrasting. A conclusion suggests itself. This novelty will do for those users who work at the computer most of the time not in the daytime, but in the evening or at night.

SVEN Comfort 7600 EL

SVEN Comfort 7600 EL, model, as well as the previous keyboard, falls in the type of full-size input devices. At that, it has even greater dimensions, but alongside with that it has ample opportunities. However, it doesn’t have many functional differences. The first of them consists in a possibility to select key color not of two, but of three colors. The novelty has the switch-controlled backlighting of every key symbol, which can be blue, red or violet. For somebody this pleasant fact is just a small designer’s pretentiousness, but for those users, who have to type long texts with SVEN Comfort 7600 EL the color selection will help to obtain maximum comfort for their eyes.

SVEN Comfort 7600 EL model case is made of glossy and mat black plastics. The keyboard has quite wide fields around the area with keys, and there is a non-removable part at the front designed for the natural position of hands during work. The tilt angle of the novelty is changed with pulldown legs, but at that the back case edge of SVEN Comfort 7600 EL does not rise so greatly, as in two models considered above.

SVEN Comfort 7600 EL model has a traditional layout of main keys, which is practically similar to SVEN Comfort 7400 EL keyboard considered above. Buttons of the novelty also have a diaphragm mechanism of pressure and are notable for their pleasant quiet stroke. In addition, the device has a block of additional buttons located at the top of the case. Similar to other models these buttons are designed for fast access to multimedia and internet applications. And there is another additional round button in the case right part next to three LED indicators. It serves to control the key backlighting. Short press of the key leads to switching a backlighting color, but the long press – to its switch off or switch on.

We could not but to mention that due to more carefully considered case shape you can work with this keyboard with more pleasant and comfort for a long time as compared with two other models. Hands get tired much less and a possibility to select a backlighting color provides minimum tension for eyes. Nevertheless, keys of the novelty, similar to SVEN Comfort 7400 EL, model, are well legible in darkness. Symbols of keys are not quite contrasting without backlighting, that is why this model is recommended to those users only, who the most of the time work at the computer not in the day-time, but in the evening or at night.

SVEN RX-333 Wireless model can be reckoned with every reason among the most unusual representatives of its family. If you look at this mouse from above, it is an easy matter to notice that its shape differs substantially from the most similar devices. This model is designed in such a way that it is not necessary to squeeze and strain a hand during its grasp. For this purpose, the right part of SVEN RX-333 Wireless case has the stepped extended geometry, i.e. rubberized shelves for the fourth finger and the little finger.

The left side verge has a traditional concave surface for comfortable location of the thumb on it. This surface is also made of rubberized material and has distinctive ribs for the tightest grasp. Instead of habitual buttons to pass to the previous/next page or action SVEN RX-333 Wireless model is equipped with an additional scrolling wheel – exactly the same, which is located on the case top side. The wheel allows moving quickly to a desired page, if you have already accomplished more than tens of changeovers in one window. In addition, you can comfortably hook the mouse with this wheel with the thumb during the mouse carrying over a table. However, it should be noted that it is practically impossible to grasp this wide mouse reliably in a different way.

Furthermore, SVEN RX-333 Wireless has another additional button on its left side verge. It is located in such a way to prevent casual pressure on it. This button fulfils the switching function between optical sensor resolutions: 800, 1200, 1600 dpi.

The lower surface has four not very wide fluoroplastic strips for smooth slip, a sliding button to switch power supply off, not covered slot for the storage of the compact USB-receiver and a traditional battery compartment.

Operation impressions

SVEN RX-333 Wireless model hardly will do for users with a small hand, but all other people can afford to work with this original device. It should be mentioned that it is a little bit difficult to control SVEN RX-333 Wireless without experience. However, after a day or two fingers will find automatically the necessary cavities on its case and easy move the novelty – it is not necessary to think about its «strange» construction at all. However, SVEN RX-333 Wireless model certainly will not please everybody, so it will be better to try this mouse in work before buying.

Unlike the previous model, SVEN RX-440 Wireless manipulator can be reckoned among classic full-size representatives of its type. This mouse has a traditional ergonomic shape and designed for the right hand. The novelty case is made of rubberized, soft-touch plastic with narrow lacquered insertions.

The left side verge has a concave surface for comfortable location of the thumb on it. The pair of narrow buttons is located there as well to go to the next or previous page in Internet browser or other programs. The novelty has no any additional buttons. It is not possible to change the optical sensor resolution as well; it is permanently equal to 800 dpi. But unlike SVEN RX-333 Wireless model, SVEN RX-440 Wireless mouse can be easy caught and carried above the table surface.

There are four round fluoroplastic strips for sliding and a battery compartment at the lower surface. Unfortunately, this model does not have a slot for USB-receiver storage, as well as it does not have a button to switch the power off – the mouse is switched off automatically.

Operation impressions

SVEN RX-440 Wireless model will do for the overwhelming majority of users, who prefer to hold a mouse in the right hand. Its shape and dimensions should gladden both people with the small hand, and people, who like more big manipulators. As far as buttons are concerned, there are no any claims regarding their location at all, but regarding their design quality – claims are available. For instance, a pressing click is not too clearly defined, but additional buttons on the left side verge are shaky to and fro, and that diminishes the control accuracy as well. But if to take into consideration that SVEN RX-440 Wireless is designed, first of all, for office applications, which do not require the «game» attention focusing, then above said shortcomings can be named not too substantial.

To judge by technical capabilities of a mouse, SVEN RX-525 Silent Wireless model has the universal purpose and is able not only to execute office work, but to help its proprietor to destroy virtual monsters as well. The wide large case dimensions promote this as well as a possibility to change an optical sensor resolution: 800, 1200, 1600 dpi. Similar to other models of SVEN manipulators the novelty case is made of rubberized soft-touch plastic – pale-grey on each side and dark-grey in its top.

The left side verge has a concave surface for comfortable location of the thumb on it, but the right side is gently curved, which is also destined for reliable grasp. Two narrow buttons are located on the left verge to go to the next or previous page in Internet browser or other programs. In addition, there is another button above the scrolling wheel, which switches the optical sensor resolution.

The lower surface has five very large fluoroplastic strips for the maximum smooth sliding over a table or mouse pad, a battery compartment and sliding button to switch the power supply off. Moreover, the slot for the USB-receiver storage is located there as well.

Operation impressions

If you are a lover of large mice, then you will like SVEN RX-525 Silent Wireless model for sure for its carefully considered geometry, which allows locating comfortably a hand on it and reaching with your fingers to any button or scrolling wheel without any effort. The mouse slides smoothly over the table, and at the same time, you can easily pick it up at any moment and carry for ten centimeters. As far as buttons are concerned, then a model, which, as you can pretty easy to guess after its name, is oriented to the noiselessness, they operate substantially quieter indeed then in two previous specimens tested by us. But tactile feelings during pressing can be described as average. The novelty has all the same problems, i.e. indistinct pressing and additional keys shaky to and fro.

General conclusions

SVEN periphery tested by us can be described in general as the periphery, which corresponds to its cost for hundred-per-cent and perfectly executes the tasks incumbent on it. We have some remarks of course, but in whole, they are not very significant and in many cases they do not concern the operation of novelties in their main special-purpose modes. Moreover, original functions being realized in SVEN peripheral devices, which we have tested today, compel to forget about available shortcomings at all and provide their operation substantially comfort and more effective, than the most similar devices of the same price range.
