The segment of small speaker systems intended especially for tablet PCs and telephones develops dynamically like never before. Why? It’s quite simple: modern gadgets have become so nice that with their help it is possible to watch movies or play serious games with no trouble at all. It is natural that all these things are desirable to do with good sound, but it is unrealistic to “insert” it in a case less than one centimeter thick. An additional speaker system settles this question easily, especially as it is wireless in most cases – it stands apart and sounds a movie or a new clip from YouTube adequately.
Another thing surprises. There are more than enough suggestions at the market, but now and then a speaker with weight 500 g of a similar type costs as a real full-size speaker system. And a price-list of some brand models reaches easily to $ 200-300. Not everybody will want to buy such a thing, because many such systems are over-estimated undoubtedly. You can understand this particularly well after the acquaintance with more affordable SVEN PS-100BL speaker. Yes, this model cannot be considered as a state-of-the-art speaker, because, say, it has not NFC and other frills. However, the system has a number of unquestionable advantages like a considered design, two loudspeakers, the availability of a high-capacity battery and passive emitters, but its price is not more than $ 50. In general, many offers with a price greater in many times pale into insignificance instantaneously on the background of such a competitor.
Package content
The speaker is sold in a carton with the standard package content for similar devices. A micro USB cable to charge the built-in battery and a cable with 3.5 mm connector for a linear input are supplied as one set with the speaker system.
Design and construction
In outward appearance SVEN PS-100BL looks not so cool as some other portable speakers, however its simple design is more than compensated by the considered moments of its construction.
For example, two 40 mm loudspeakers are hidden just beyond the top metal net. And the pair of passive emitters for more powerful bass is located close to them. It is very notably, because, as a rule, producers in general do not try to reach the low-frequency range in speakers for smartphones and tablet PCs. SVEN Company not only tries to do it, but it also gets a nice expected result.
The system is placed on the table with the help of a big 7.5 × 15 cm rubber pad; therefore the vibration transmission to horizontal surfaces is minimized.
A folding platform at the front, once again, with very comfortable rubber dampers, enables to keep a large telephone or tablet PC vertically. It looks like PS-100BL is not only a wireless speaker, but a very functional support as well.
The sound can be transmitted at will – by means of a linear input or via Bluetooth. By the way, we have one of a few models before us, which is able to commute sources automatically when you insert a cable into the input. At that the extended functions are available via Bluetooth; it is possible to change tracks, stop/start playback and even to speak over the telephone, because the speaker has a built-in microphone.
Impressions of the use
The speaker in operation has brought some happiness to us. The sound is quite qualitative; it is loud and without substantial nonlinear distortions. Just the expressed hint of upper bass is available there, which you don’t hear even in more expensive versions. Within the limits of a small room you can quite comfortably watch a movie or listen to your favorite music with the quality order of magnitude greater, than the built-in loudspeaker of a tablet PC. Connection via Bluetooth does not give rise to complaints: the range of coverage is standard, it is equal to 10 meters, the quality compression is not felt for reasons of the level of used loudspeakers. The only thing that SVEN PS-100BL is not able to remember several devices simultaneously; this function has already become habitual for more expensive systems.
All additional functions operate adequately. Buttons switch tracks, but when there is an incoming call it is possible to answer the phone (using Play button) and speak as over the ordinary telephone (i.e. the hands-free system was realized). At that the communication quality is at the satisfactory level. A caller will hear your voice, but unwanted sounds occur as well. The music will be playbacked again after the communication session completion.
Conclusion
In total we put the excellent mark to SVEN PS-100BL, because the system works off paid money completely. According to the comfort level (let us not forget about the excellent folding platform for tablet PCs), its autonomy and the sound quality this speaker is highly competitive with decisions, which cost two-three times more. Cost effectiveness affects not only in an advanced Bluetooth and satisfactory quality of voice communication. However, these factors are secondary. This new product has really a very serious position pressing the more brand things.
