There are so many speaker systems within the range of SVEN products that it’s easy to get lost in the abundance of product lines and separate systems. However, this refers to devices for sounding multimedia and PC equipment. But it wound be so nice if the Finnish hot-shots had an audio product with extraordinary acoustic abilities, not just when connected to a PC but also as a part of a solid Hi-Fi class speaker system. So let’s pronounce the “Open Sesame” spell, and we’ll see the luxurious and powerful SVEN Royal 2R active speaker system.

This wonderful system was created by Finnish audio engineering professionals and diligent workers from The Celestial Empire where the manufacturing takes place.

SVEN Royal 2R is the symbiosis of an active stereo multimedia system and a couple of rugged studio monitors providing high-fidelity sound for fastidious audiophiles. Yet these speakers are affordable to consumers of any range. In the price/quality ratio, the former is fairly lower. If these speakers were bearing nameplates of a venerable brand, for instance, a British one, manufacturing its products in China as well, the price would be quite different. Actually, we are already familiar with representatives of speaker systems of the kind occupying the top position in the list of Sven products. Here refers the first model of the line – Royal 1, and then Royal 1R. Later , Royal 2 appeared and its version with letter R. By the way, R means “remote control” here – the system is active, which means it’s equipped with a built-in amplifier to be controlled. Someone might object: is that all? But don’t try to run before you can walk. Let’s go back to the product tested.

The classically-shaped cabinets of these quite big bookshelf speakers are moulded from medium-dense MDF boards. They have faux wood film finishing easy to be taken for natural wood, and the front panels are covered with several coats of high-quality black piano lacquer. In a word, it’s solid, and refined, and attractive. In the upper part of the speaker, in a shallow round silver-rimmed horn, there is a dome silk tweeter 25 mm in diameter. Below, framed in a similar light rim, there is a midrange/woofer driver with a 165 mm diaphragm made of braided polymer reminding of Kevlar. The voice coil moves on a long-stroke rubber suspension, which provides detailed, taut and deep bass, and the bullet-shaped dust cap serves for phase equalization and cooling. As the system is active, we can see five small buttons for controlling amplifying and switching conditions/ They are placed on a rectangular plate under the woofer of the left speaker. However, there is a pleasant and ergonomic remote control included for better convenience. The rear wall of the left speaker with the amp is built into it is performed in rational asceticism: there are two RCA line inputs and two screw terminals for the right speaker connection. There is also a power cable and a ribbed radiator panel for cooling the amplifier output stage. Besides, each speaker is equipped with a round Bass Reflex port. SVEN Royal 2R has 100 W total power, which is 20 W more than the previous model produced. Frequency range has become broader, too, though weight and dimensions of the system have increased only a little.

Here we are approaching the most important point – the luxurious sound of the people’s brand product. Perhaps, SVEN Royal 2R won’t be able to compete against professional level studio monitors with numerous zeros on their price tags. But it won’t disgrace itself either, won’t throw up the game – it will tickle the ears of common listeners and audiophiles with rich, clear, open sound featuring good dynamics with a large per cent of energy and drive, as well as ability to perform music of various styles, from hard rock to sophisticated jazz and popular classical pieces. As we see, it’s a small miracle – this couple has deserved every right to work as a decent stereo system, not just to sound gamer battles and play digital records from a PC or notebook. A great ship asks deep water!

To tell the truth, such a system isn’t worth buying for sounding games and other multimedia entertainment – it’s a rather serious device designed for operating high-quality stereo content. The designer’s fads and solid finish give evidence that SVEN Royal 2R is really trustworthy.

Advantages: both exterior design and inner content are up to the mark, superior quality with no effect on the price, excellent sound.
